Post-Rock
I’m back, so it’s time to post some stuff. First of all, a definition - Wikipedia says that post-rock is a musical genre characterized by the use of instruments commonly associated with rock music, but using rhythms, harmonies, melodies, timbres, and chord progressions not traditionally found in rock. Post-rock musicians typically produce instrumental music. Fair enough.
So, the first band we’re gonna talk about is Lights Out Asia. Post rock band from Wisconsin, formed in 2003. Some say that one of their albums, Eyes Like Brontide, is one of the best post-rock albums ever. I can’t agree with that, but seriously, the album is really good. It’s a must listen.

Next up we have a really good EP from a band named This Will Destroy You. The band formed in 2005 and released the EP which was originally supposed to be the band’s demo, it almost wasn’t released, Young Mountain, the same year. This is one of my favorite post-rock albums.

On a more experimental note, I present you two albums from Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Working with orchestrated arrangements, the nine-piece group created tracks with wide dynamic ranges, a highly evocative use of instrumentation and sounds and uncompromising long form compositions. Their engrossing use of art and visuals in both album packaging and live performances creates an enigmatic aura. That sounds good, doesn’t it? Yeah. I’m gonna post two albums from these guys, both are a must try if you’re a fan of a genre. Well, if you’re a fan of the genre you probably heard these albums already, but oh well.
Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven - One of the tags on last.fm for this album is “albums to listen to while lying in bed completely alone with my eyes closed and all lights off thinking about nothing at all and just letting myself go”. I recommend doing that.
And the last album from GY!BE - F♯ A♯ ∞
Time for a different band. I think it would be unfair if I made a post-rock article with no Mogwai in it. It’s one of the most influential and best known bands in its genre. Young Team. Their debut album. Pure fucking awesomeness.

That’s it for today. Enjoy!
